We started practice on March 10th and are beginning our 5th week of the season, and have found only 1 day to go outside for 20 minutes of Fly balls trying to dodge the snow banks. We were supposed to have a game Thursday 4/3/13 during the blizzard, and on Friday 4/4/14 when school was postponed 2 hours from the snow, but unfortunately those games were cancelled. We have great numbers this year for softball 37 girls out in Grades 9 - 12. Our spirits are high as we look to defend our Conference Championship this 2014 Season. We have been finding creative ways to simulate game situations inside the gym and have been coming in early and staying late to prepare for the season, and hoping everyday that the snow melts.
We are returning a lot of key positions this year with Senior Leadership: First Base Emily Koecher, Center Field Becca Broz, Behind the Plate: Lexi Cummings, and Kylee Berube is going to fill the hole @ Shortstop, Seniors Taylor Dehkes, Marissa Gordan, and Ashlee Martini are also looking to lock in there position into the line up. For Juniors this year we have Juila Christianson is sliding into 3rd Base, and Pitching will be shared between Tiffany Heisler and Lexi Miller, other notable Juniors this year are Cora Lundquist, Jenni Babolik, Miranda Lindahl and Monica Lindahl. We have been working hard inside so that the instant the snow allows us to take the field, we are ready to defend our Conference Championship from last year. The only coaching change this year is at the Junior High Level Mellissa Milliman is stepping in to focus on fundamentals with the 7th and 8th grade teams. Our goals this year include repeating the Conference Championship, making a deep play off run, and staying focused with fundamentals and looking ahead only one game at a time.
Minnesota springs are very unpredictable, but we are preparing with game like intensity, even though Old Man Winter refuses to take a nap for the summer. We are preparing inside in the gym with no fly balls, but many game situations and a lot of repetitions in the batting cage. We hope to get our first game in Monday April 14th here in Pine City versus East Central, Last year our first game wasn't until April 29th, so we are looking forward to starting 2 weeks earlier than last spring.
